Alternative protein startups can access America’s seed fund
SBIR, often called “America’s seed fund”, has been one of the largest single sources of U.S. federal funding for alternative protein startups to date. As of August 2024, we’re aware of at least $5.9 million in SBIR/STTR grants awarded to the alternative protein industry.
The SBIR/STTR programs provide grants for U.S.-based small businesses to conduct scientific research with commercial potential. The programs are overseen by the Small Business Administration and administered by a number of federal agencies, each of which releases solicitations at varied times throughout the year.
