Event description

The Bezos Center for Sustainable Protein at NC State University is hosting its inaugural summit on October 16–17, 2025, bringing together the brightest minds in science, policy, and industry to advance the future of sustainable protein.

This two-day event will feature exciting keynote talks, interactive panels, and breakout sessions highlighting breakthroughs in biomanufacturing, alternative proteins, and sustainable food systems.

GFI’s Maddie Cohen, J.D., associate director of regulatory affairs, will join the Policy & Regulations panel alongside Deepti Kulkarni (Covington & Burling) and Jo Anne Shatkin (Vireo Advisors), with moderation by Norbert Wilson (Duke University). Together, they will explore the current state of cultivated meat regulation, highlight both challenges and opportunities, and discuss how thoughtful, science-based policy can guide this emerging sector toward a more sustainable future.

It’s a conversation designed to be both insightful and practical—an invitation to see how today’s regulatory choices can shape tomorrow’s food system.

Madeline Cohen, J.D.

ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, REGULATORY AFFAIRS

Madeline Cohen leads GFI’s regulatory team in implementing regulatory, policy, and litigation strategies to support a clear path to market and a level playing field for alternative proteins. Prior to joining GFI, Madeline worked on a variety of litigation and compliance matters as an associate at Wiley Rein LLP. She also previously served as a law clerk to the Honorable Robert. C. Chambers, U.S. District Court Judge. Madeline holds a J.D. from The George Washington University Law School and a B.A. from American University.
