Glucose metabolism-guided culture optimization
2022-2023
The Brodsky-Hanga collaboration will define an intracellular pathway in porcine muscle responsible for the uptake of glucose. The goal is to exploit this understanding to nourish cultured muscle cells for cultivated meat production.
Production platform: Cultivated
Technology sector: Cell culture media

Professor of Cell Biology, Structural & Molecular Biology, Div of Biosciences, University College London
Frances Brodsky, DPhil is Professor of Cell Biology at UCL, where she was Director of the Division of Biosciences from 2014-2020. Her laboratory, which was located at UCSF for many years, studies intracellular membrane traffic relevant to muscle metabolism. Brodsky is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and a member of EMBO. She is a co-PI for the BBSRC-funded Centre for Doctoral Training in Food Systems and founded the UCL Research Domain in Food, Metabolism and Society.
