The UNLP Alternative Protein Project strives to develop a dynamic alternative protein ecosystem within the Southern Cone of South America. Leveraging the National University of La Plata’s renowned programs in Biotechnology, Food Science, and Chemical Technology, our goal is to drive technological innovation, industrial scalability, and regional growth in the alternative protein sector. Furthermore, UNLP conducts cutting-edge research through specialized institutions like CIDCA (Center for Research and Development in Food Cryotechnology) and LIPA (Research Laboratory in Food Proteins), premier centers backed by CONICET (the National Scientific and Technical Research Council) dedicated to protein characterization, bioprocessing, and food engineering.

The mission of the Alternative Protein Project at UNLP is to build a diverse, action-oriented community, and to establish collaborative alliances with industry and academia to contribute to the growing alternative protein landscape.
