About

The University of Toronto Alt Protein Project strives to raise awareness and create a vibrant community around the alternative protein field. Leveraging our location in the dynamic Toronto area, we aim to host educational events featuring industry leaders and experts to spark scientific inquiry and innovation. As a leading research university, UofT currently has research projects and emerging start up companies in plant-based proteins, cultivated meat, and precision fermentation. However, despite the extensive research ecosystem, there is a notable lack of community support to synergize these efforts. Our student group seeks to bridge this gap by cultivating a collaborative environment in this large ecosystem, enhancing the impact of ongoing research.

The UofT Alt Protein Project aspires to become a central hub for alternative protein research and a guiding force for students pursuing careers in this field. While our expertise as founders lays in the science of cultivated meat, we are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive community that encourages multidisciplinary research. By providing resources, networking opportunities, and a platform for collaboration, we aim to empower students and researchers to meaningfully contribute to the future of sustainable protein alternatives.
