About
The Alt Protein Project at the University of Manitoba brings together a diverse community of students committed to advancing sustainable protein systems through research, education, and collaboration. Our core values emphasize cross-disciplinary collaboration, accessible knowledge sharing, and a commitment to building a more equitable and sustainable food system.
We are uniquely positioned in the heart of Canada’s pulse-growing region, supported by the university’s strong research programs in food and human nutritional sciences, biosystems engineering. plant and soil sciences. We engage with existing initiatives such as the Manitoba Sustainable Protein Research Symposium and benefit from access to facilities like the Richardson Centre for Food Technology and Research. Our group has already contributed to the alt protein space through peer-reviewed research, conference presentations, and student-led outreach. We aim to grow a hub for students to explore alt proteins through hands-on projects, seminars, and community-building that connects science with real-world impact.
