About
The UFRJ Alt Protein Project is an initiative formed by students and researchers from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). UFRJ offers a graduate program in Food Science and has laboratories, professors, and students engaged in research on alternative proteins, bioactive compounds, vegetable oils, and the development of plant-based foods. Our group connects science and innovation through academic projects and entrepreneurial initiatives, focused on the use of alternative and sustainable ingredients.
Our mission is to expand access to knowledge about alternative proteins beyond the university, promoting food education and the construction of fair and sustainable food systems. We also aim to encourage a favorable environment for research and the integration of diverse knowledge in the field. We believe that alternative proteins are essential to addressing environmental, health, and animal welfare challenges. Our goal is to foster scientific development with social impact by connecting academia, industry, and society.
