About

The ICT Mumbai Smart Protein Project stands out due to ICT Mumbai’s reputation as a premier research university, particularly in the fields of chemical engineering, food technology, and biotechnology, which are intrinsically linked to the development of alternative proteins. The university boasts ongoing research in cultivated meat, led by esteemed faculty members such as Dr. Ratnesh Jain and Dr. Prajakta Dandekar Jain. ICT Mumbai students have also actively participated in the India Smart Protein Innovation Challenge (ISPIC), further cementing the university’s role in this burgeoning field.

The ICT Mumbai Smart Protein Project is driven by the goal of fostering a sustainable and ethical food system by promoting and developing alternative proteins. Our objectives are to educate and engage the university community, conduct cutting-edge research, and advocate for the inclusion of alternative proteins in the broader food industry. Our group’s core values revolve around sustainability, innovation, and inclusivity, ensuring that our community welcomes all individuals interested in alternative proteins.

Moreover, the Mumbai Biocluster, located on the university’s premises,  catalyzes innovation in biopharmaceuticals. This initiative serves as an accelerator for startups, academia, MSMEs, and industries, providing state-of-the-art infrastructure and expertise for the development of critical therapies for diseases. The Biocluster’s alignment with our Smart Protein Project’s vision underscores ICT Mumbai’s commitment to bridging the gap between research and commercialization, thereby propelling India to the forefront of biopharmaceutical and alternative protein innovation.
