The Smart Protein Project at Gujarat Biotechnology University (GBU) aims to accelerate the development of plant-based and fermentation-derived proteins. Our core values are innovation, open-access knowledge sharing, and counterfactual impact. We are dedicated to building a collaborative ecosystem where students can directly translate foundational biological science into viable alternative protein solutions.

Located in GIFT City, Gandhinagar, GBU is uniquely positioned as a dedicated biotechnology university with a core mandate for product-focused, translational research. Our regional ecosystem is designed specifically to turn laboratory innovations into scalable realities. We specialise in critical adjacent fields such as industrial bioprocessing, agrowaste valorisation, and sustainable biomass cultivation, which provide our students with the exact technical foundation needed to address alternative protein bottlenecks.

As a newly forming chapter, our defining accomplishment has been successfully uniting researchers across various specialised bioprocessing domains. We have built a cohesive, multidisciplinary team whose hands-on laboratory expertise covers the entire bio-production pipeline.
