About

The Aston Alt Protein Project aims to inspire and support students, researchers and industry professionals in developing innovative solutions to global challenges such as food security, environmental sustainability, public health and animal welfare.

Aston University is a pioneer in the cultivated meat field and continues to spearhead initiatives in this area. Our enthusiastic faculty members from various disciplines, including tissue engineering, plant biology, bioprocess engineering and behavioural studies, are actively engaged in alternative protein research and collaborative efforts with other leading organisations.

Located in Birmingham, a key hub of the UK’s food industry, our Project provides unique opportunities for partnerships with leading industry players and scientists. Our goals include driving valuable research, creating training and funding opportunities to encourage more students and faculty members to explore novel food and alternative protein research, as well as fostering further collaboration within the Midlands and beyond.
