SUMMARY:Anticipating 2030 production requirements for plant-based meat
DESCRIPTION:Anticipating 2030 production requirements for plant-based meatPast\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for a review of key insights from GFI’s recent report estimating production targets the industry must meet to satisfy anticipated global market demand for plant-based meat by 2030. \n\n\n\n	Share this page on Facebook\n	\n	Share on Facebook\n\n\n	Share this page on Twitter\n	\n	Share on X\n\n\n	Share this page on LinkedIn\n	\n	Share on LinkedIn\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n	\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent description\n\n\n\nIn recent years\, consumer demand for plant-based meat has often outpaced the industry’s supply chain capabilities. Failure to meet industry production targets may ultimately manifest as higher prices and limited availability to consumers. Given the forecasted increases in global demand for protein and shifting consumer preferences\, the industry must prepare to meet the growing demand for alternative protein sources. Join us for our next Science of Alt Protein webinar that will review the findings of a recent GFI report estimating production targets the industry must meet to satisfy anticipated global market demand for plant-based meat by 2030.  \n\n\n\nThe analysis examines current ingredient utilization across plant-based meat products and forecasts global production volume requirements to hit production targets. The seminar will address the potential for global supply squeezes of cornerstone ingredients like coconut oil and pea protein in the coming years. Early investment\, innovative partnerships\, and research for alternative ingredients or sourcing strategies that have the potential to mitigate future ingredient shortages will also be discussed. \n\n\n\n After the seminar\, we encourage you to join our optional networking event for alternative protein enthusiasts! You can talk about your research\, your company\, any challenges you’re facing in your work\, or your reflections on the webinar. The networking sessions start at 2:15pm EST and require a separate registration. We hope to see you there! \n\n\n\n\n\nMeet the speakers\n\n\n\nZak WestonFOODSERVICE AND SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGERZak works with manufacturers\, suppliers\, and upstream companies to scale innovation and infrastructure investment throughout the alternative protein supply chain. This is especially crucial in countries where smallholder farmers still struggle to get their yield up\, to meet rising demand. On the ecological front\, the growth of alternative proteins represents a sustainable alternative to business-as-usual animal agriculture. Many start-ups and entrepreneurs in this growing space are now working to solve agricultural challenges such as low agricultural productivity\, poor efficiency in the supply chain and lack of access to credits and loans. \n\n\n\nThis has led to the sector witnessing an investment boom\, despite the pandemic. What are some of the unrealized potential in the food and AgriTech sectors? Can it evolve to solve the impending food security crises? Attend this session to hear thoughts from industry experts. \n\n\n\n\n\nGFI speaker\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShuli Goh\n\n\n\n\n\nPOLICY SPECIALIST\, GFI APAC \n\n\n\nShuli is GFI’s Policy Specialist for the APAC region. Shuli leverages her expertise in geopolitical analysis to develop impactful policies that drive engagement and support for alternative proteins. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nMore about Shuli\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nUpcoming events\n\n\n\nView all events\n\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n October 13\, 2026\n McNamara Alumni Center\n \n \n \n Bridge2Food North America\n \n \n \n Join GFI at Bridge2Food North America\, where food industry leaders will gather to explore the latest developments in ingredient innovation and alternative proteins. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n October 13\, 2026\n FAO Headquarters\n \n \n \n World Food Forum 2026: Protein diversification for the Global South\n \n \n \n How can protein diversification strengthen food systems across the Global South? This year’s conference will feature creative problem-solvers working to advance alternative proteins\, including GFI’s very own Bruce Friedrich and Caroline Bushnell. \n\n\n\nBruce will speak on the panel “Alternative Proteins can be the “Clean Energy” of Food” on March 15. \n\n\n\nThe world will fail in getting to net-zero emissions without rethinking how we make meat—and now. Alternative proteins may be the highest impact\, scalable climate solution available outside of energy. It’s time to launch a global moonshot for reimagining meat. Dig in with an impact-focused group of innovators to understand how alternative proteins can catapult progress on climate change\, reduce pandemic risk\, and sustainably feed 10 billion people by 2050—all while capturing consumer fascination with novel food technology. Learn more about Bruce’s panel here. \n\n\n\nCaroline will speak on the panel “What We’ll Eat in 2030” on March 17. \n\n\n\nThe All-American meal is being transformed for the better. Within 10 years\, if the visionaries on this panel are successful\, we’ll be eating steak\, chicken\, and fish that’s cultivated from cells\, 3D printed\, or made from plants. An all-star panel of innovators in the alternative protein space from UPSIDE Foods\, Rebellyous Foods\, Nature’s Fynd\, and The Good Food Institute will discuss how we’ll get to a future of food that’s better for people and the planet\, and with flavor that will knock your taste buds off. Yet\, to fulfill this promise requires that the cultivated meat field first develop efficient processes that create desirable products. \n\n\n\nThe Cultivated Meat Modeling Consortium (est. 2019) believes using computational modeling can accelerate the optimization of both processes and products\, enabling the field to mature into an industry years before it otherwise would\, while also reducing the cost of that transformation. Their aim is to develop the computational modeling technologies needed to achieve this acceleration. \n\n\n\nJoin us on March 24th to hear directly from engineers and scientists involved in CMMC projects and their journey thus far. \n\n\n\n\n\nMeet the presenters\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCultivated Meat Modeling Consortium\n\n\n\n\n\nThe mission of the Cultivated Meat Modeling Consortium (CMMC) is to accelerate the delivery of affordable high-quality cultivated meat products the consumer market demands. The members’ vision is to collaborate on the development of computational modeling approaches the industry can use to optimize growth processes and product characteristics. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nUpcoming events\n\n\n\nView all events\n\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n October 13\, 2026\n McNamara Alumni Center\n \n \n \n Bridge2Food North America\n \n \n \n Join GFI at Bridge2Food North America\, where food industry leaders will gather to explore the latest developments in ingredient innovation and alternative proteins. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n October 13\, 2026\n FAO Headquarters\n \n \n \n World Food Forum 2026: Protein diversification for the Global South\n \n \n \n How can protein diversification strengthen food systems across the Global South?
