This year’s conference will feature creative problem-solvers working to advance alternative proteins\, including GFI’s very own Bruce Friedrich and Caroline Bushnell. \n\n\n\nBruce will speak on the panel “Alternative Proteins can be the “Clean Energy” of Food” on March 15. \n\n\n\nThe world will fail in getting to net-zero emissions without rethinking how we make meat—and now. Alternative proteins may be the highest impact\, scalable climate solution available outside of energy. It’s time to launch a global moonshot for reimagining meat. Dig in with an impact-focused group of innovators to understand how alternative proteins can catapult progress on climate change\, reduce pandemic risk\, and sustainably feed 10 billion people by 2050—all while capturing consumer fascination with novel food technology. Learn more about Bruce’s panel here. \n\n\n\nCaroline will speak on the panel “What We’ll Eat in 2030” on March 17. \n\n\n\nThe All-American meal is being transformed for the better. Within 10 years\, if the visionaries on this panel are successful\, we’ll be eating steak\, chicken\, and fish that’s cultivated from cells\, 3D printed\, or made from plants. An all-star panel of innovators in the alternative protein space from UPSIDE Foods\, Rebellyous Foods\, Nature’s Fynd\, and The Good Food Institute will discuss how we’ll get to a future of food that’s better for people and the planet\, and with flavor that will knock your taste buds off. Currently\, more than 70 startups around the globe are hard at work\, aspiring to build a sustainable and humane new food system as a solution to conventional animal agriculture. But what is it exactly\, and where does the idea come from? \n\n\n\nIra van Eelan is the daughter of Willem van Eelan\, the late Dutch researcher who pioneered the development of cultivated meat and is known as the Godfather of the movement. Continuing in his legacy\, Ira is the co-founder and CEO of Kind Earth Tech. Dr. Uma Valeti is a Mayo Clinic-trained cardiologist turned CEO and entrepreneur. SUMMARY:Computer modeling in cultivated meat
DESCRIPTION:The emerging landscape of computer modeling in cultivated meat\n	Share this page on Facebook\n	\n	Share on Facebook\n\n\n	Share this page on Twitter\n	\n	Share on X\n\n\n	Share this page on LinkedIn\n	\n	Share on LinkedIn\n\n\n\nPast\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for our next Science of Alt Protein seminar where members of the Cultivated Meat Modeling Consortium will describe how computational modeling can accelerate the optimization of both processes and products. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCultivated Meat \n\n\n\nModeling Consortium\n\n\n\n\n	\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent description\n\n\n\nCultivated meat promises to solve some of the world’s most urgent problems\, including feeding ten billion people by 2050\, preserving ocean ecosystems\, and reducing animal agriculture’s impact on the climate. Yet\, to fulfill this promise requires that the cultivated meat field first develop efficient processes that create desirable products. \n\n\n\nThe Cultivated Meat Modeling Consortium (est. 2019) believes using computational modeling can accelerate the optimization of both processes and products\, enabling the field to mature into an industry years before it otherwise would\, while also reducing the cost of that transformation. Their aim is to develop the computational modeling technologies needed to achieve this acceleration. \n\n\n\nJoin us on March 24th to hear directly from engineers and scientists involved in CMMC projects and their journey thus far. \n\n\n\n\n\nMeet the presenters\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCultivated Meat Modeling Consortium\n\n\n\n\n\nThe mission of the Cultivated Meat Modeling Consortium (CMMC) is to accelerate the delivery of affordable high-quality cultivated meat products the consumer market demands. The members’ vision is to collaborate on the development of computational modeling approaches the industry can use to optimize growth processes and product characteristics. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nUpcoming events\n\n\n\nView all events\n\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n October 13\, 2026\n McNamara Alumni Center\n \n \n \n Bridge2Food North America\n \n \n \n Join GFI at Bridge2Food North America\, where food industry leaders will gather to explore the latest developments in ingredient innovation and alternative proteins. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n October 13\, 2026\n FAO Headquarters\n \n \n \n World Food Forum 2026: Protein diversification for the Global South\n \n \n \n How can protein diversification strengthen food systems across the Global South? SUMMARY:Fermentation - Industry Outlook on Trends & Opportunities
DESCRIPTION:Fermentation – Industry Outlook on Trends & OpportunitiesPast\n\n\n\n\nGain insight from industry experts on fermentation technologies and meet the partners who are leading the way to advance fermentation processing in Western Canada. \n\n\n\n	Share this page on Facebook\n	\n	Share on Facebook\n\n\n	Share this page on Twitter\n	\n	Share on X\n\n\n	Share this page on LinkedIn\n	\n	Share on LinkedIn\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n	\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent description\n\n\n\nAs one of the oldest known sciences\, fermentation technologies have played a large part in feeding the global population for thousands of years. More recently\, fermentation has gained renewed interest from industry and consumers alike as one of the world’s leading technologies to address issues regarding food sustainability and security. The link between fermented foods and gut/overall health and wellness\, and the potential to improve the quantity and quality of plant based proteins and starches through fermentation\, are two of the major factors driving this renewed focus. \n\n\n\nWestern Canada\, in general\, is lagging behind in its capabilities to address the growing demand in both technology and capacity in fermentation even though the region is positioned as a global ingredient supplier of plant based proteins with a strong focus on ingredient purification/fractionation. This is why in Saskatchewan we are investing in building a fermentation ecosystem through research\, ecosystem mapping\, increased capabilities and technologies. Join the Fermentation Trends & Opportunities —Current & Future Industry Outlook webinar to gain insight from industry experts on fermentation technologies and to meet the partners who are leading the way to advancing fermentation processing in Western Canada. \n\n\n\n\n\nEvent location\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGFI speaker\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLiz Specht\, Ph.D.\n\n\n\n\n\nVICE PRESIDENT\, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY \n\n\n\nLiz Specht oversees GFI’s Science and Technology department to build a roadmap for accelerating alternative protein research while empowering scientists to execute on this vision. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nMore about Liz\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nUpcoming events\n\n\n\nView all events\n\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n October 13\, 2026\n McNamara Alumni Center\n \n \n \n Bridge2Food North America\n \n \n \n Join GFI at Bridge2Food North America\, where food industry leaders will gather to explore the latest developments in ingredient innovation and alternative proteins. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n October 13\, 2026\n FAO Headquarters\n \n \n \n World Food Forum 2026: Protein diversification for the Global South\n \n \n \n How can protein diversification strengthen food systems across the Global South? SUMMARY:Driving Innovation by synthetic biology and fermentation can solve challenges in food production and demand
DESCRIPTION:Driving Innovation by synthetic biology and fermentation can solve challenges in food production and demandPast\n\n\n\n\nGain a better understanding of the growing interest in synthetic biology for the food market in the Asia-Pacific region and learn about the importance of nitrogen sources in the fermentation process. You will hear from industry leaders from GFIC\, Allozymes\, and Procelys by Lesaffre. \n\n\n\n	Share this page on Facebook\n	\n	Share on Facebook\n\n\n	Share this page on Twitter\n	\n	Share on X\n\n\n	Share this page on LinkedIn\n	\n	Share on LinkedIn\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n	\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent description\n\n\n\nGlobal protein consumption has risen over 45% since 2000. As much as 63% of this increase has been driven by the Asia-Pacific market. This is partly due to the rapid growth in synthetic biology\, which allows for the design of recombinant proteins that can be used for example in the production of alternative food products such as vegetarian and vegan meat replacements. \n\n\n\nTo keep up with the expanding market\, food producers will need to stay up to date on the latest advances in industrial fermentation for food applications. By connecting with fermentation and yeast-based nutrients experts\, food producers can optimize the production of recombinant proteins in industrial fermentation\, for example through the selection of a suitable nitrogen source for the fermentation process. \n\n\n\nAttend this event to hear from three industry experts about the use of synthetic biology to optimize recombinant protein expression for the food market. The program includes: \n\n\n\nAn introduction to the use of fermentation in the alternative protein marketA presentation on Allozymes’ technology for the development of custom enzymesA demonstration of how Procelys’ NuCel® products can address nutritional requirements and challenges in recombinant protein production\n\n\n\n\n\n\nUpcoming events\n\n\n\nView all events\n\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n October 13\, 2026\n McNamara Alumni Center\n \n \n \n Bridge2Food North America\n \n \n \n Join GFI at Bridge2Food North America\, where food industry leaders will gather to explore the latest developments in ingredient innovation and alternative proteins. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n October 13\, 2026\n FAO Headquarters\n \n \n \n World Food Forum 2026: Protein diversification for the Global South\n \n \n \n How can protein diversification strengthen food systems across the Global South?
