SUMMARY:Accelerating AgriTech: The race to feed the world
DESCRIPTION:Accelerating AgriTech: The race to feed the world\n	Share this page on Facebook\n	\n	Share on Facebook\n\n\n	Share this page on Twitter\n	\n	Share on X\n\n\n	Share this page on LinkedIn\n	\n	Share on LinkedIn\n\n\n\nPast\n\n\n\n\nTune into this inaugural lunch & learn virtual session for a relaxed chat with experts on understanding AgriTech’s current state of play and to map the outlook for this exciting industry. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n	\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent description\n\n\n\nThe boom in food engineering and agriculture technology\, or AgriTech\, is rewriting the playbook for one of the world’s oldest\, and most polluting industries. \n\n\n\nPrecision agriculture\, for example\, is helping farmers make better decisions with information about their soil\, water\, crop\, and climatic conditions. This is especially crucial in countries where smallholder farmers still struggle to get their yield up\, to meet rising demand. On the ecological front\, the growth of alternative proteins represents a sustainable alternative to business-as-usual animal agriculture. Many start-ups and entrepreneurs in this growing space are now working to solve agricultural challenges such as low agricultural productivity\, poor efficiency in the supply chain and lack of access to credits and loans. \n\n\n\nThis has led to the sector witnessing an investment boom\, despite the pandemic. What are some of the unrealized potential in the food and AgriTech sectors? Can it evolve to solve the impending food security crises? Attend this session to hear thoughts from industry experts. \n\n\n\n\n\nGFI speaker\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShuli Goh\n\n\n\n\n\nPOLICY SPECIALIST\, GFI APAC \n\n\n\nShuli is GFI’s Policy Specialist for the APAC region. Currently\, more than 70 startups around the globe are hard at work\, aspiring to build a sustainable and humane new food system as a solution to conventional animal agriculture. But what is it exactly\, and where does the idea come from? \n\n\n\nIra van Eelan is the daughter of Willem van Eelan\, the late Dutch researcher who pioneered the development of cultivated meat and is known as the Godfather of the movement. Continuing in his legacy\, Ira is the co-founder and CEO of Kind Earth Tech. Dr. Uma Valeti is a Mayo Clinic-trained cardiologist turned CEO and entrepreneur. In 2015 he co-founded Memphis Meats (rebranded as Upside Foods)\, the world’s largest cultivated meat company\, featured in Meat the Future. Isha Datar has been pioneering the field of cellular agriculture for the past decade. She’s the Executive Director of New Harvest\, a research institute advancing the science behind cultivated meat. Jessica Almy is the Vice President of Policy for The Good Food Institute\, leading GFI’s Policy team in setting legislative and regulatory strategy to promote fair policies and public research for cultivated meat. \n\n\n\nThis free\, virtual and recorded 50-minute panel discussion concludes with a brief Q&A with the public. Registered viewers will be gifted with a free virtual screening of Meat the Future\, including a live intro to the film by director Liz Marshall. \n\n\n\n\n\nGFI speaker\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJessica Almy\, J.D.\n\n\n\n\n\nVICE PRESIDENT\, POLICY \n\n\n\nJessica Almy\, J.D.\, leads GFI’s Policy team in setting legislative and regulatory strategy to promote fair policies and public research for plant-based\, cultivated\, and fermented foods. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nMore about Jessica\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nUpcoming events\n\n\n\nView all events\n\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n October 13\, 2026\n McNamara Alumni Center\n \n \n \n Bridge2Food North America\n \n \n \n Join GFI at Bridge2Food North America\, where food industry leaders will gather to explore the latest developments in ingredient innovation… \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n October 13\, 2026\n FAO Headquarters\n \n \n \n World Food Forum 2026: Protein diversification for the Global South\n \n \n \n How can protein diversification strengthen food systems across the Global South?
